Fifth Grade: Symbolism in Art
Fridays

Students will be introduced to the use of symbols in language and the visual arts. Students will learn that messages can be "read" through the symbols used in works of art dating from Ancient Egypt until the Modern period. Communication through ancient symbols will be explored in both the galleries and hands-on activities. A new studio activity will allow students to create printing blocks using personal symbols. This tour supports standards in the visual arts, language arts, and social studies.
