Folio Weekly Invitational Artist Exhibition at the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens

Jacksonville, Fla. – The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens and Folio Weekly present the inaugural Folio Weekly Invitational Artist Exhibition on April 15, 2009. This exhibition, on view through May 31, 2009 at The Cummer, is a showcase of local art jointly curated by the Folio Weekly Art Department and the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens staff. The exhibition celebrates Folio Weekly’s 22nd year as Northeast Florida’s News and Opinion source.
“When Folio Weekly approached us with the concept for this exhibition, everyone at The Cummer was excited,” said Cummer Museum Curator Holly Keris. “There's no better way, in my opinion, for Folio Weekly to celebrate their 22nd year of supporting local artists then by assembling this exhibition, and we are really pleased they wanted The Cummer to be involved.”
The exhibition features 33 works by 18 local artists chosen through a meticulous selection process that reviewed submissions from over 300 artists. The exhibition includes paintings, photography, mixed media, works on paper and sculpture representing a full range of styles.

“We wanted to create a well-rounded exhibit showcasing the very best local artists,” said exhibit curator and Folio Weekly Art Director W. Kelley Lucas. “I think the art community is going to be very impressed with the variety of talent they’ll see on display.”
The opening reception is Friday, April 17 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. The reception will feature the artists, complimentary beer, wine and hors d’oeuvres, and music by DJ Eric Leffler. The opening reception is open to the public and admission to the reception is $5.
