Arts for All

Adaptive Art Picture 1

For people with physical disabilities, tours of the museum and gardens use tactile experiences to encourage interaction and are coupled with studio experiences using Arts for All adaptive art-making equipment such as "Art Rollers" that attach to wheelchairs and allow the creation of painted floor murals.

VSA arts Festival

Adaptive Art Picture 2

Home to the local affiliate of VSA arts of Florida, The Cummer hosts an annual three-day festival serving over 2,000 students each spring. The festival is a blend of hands-on art experiences and a chance to view original works of art. The festival is built around specially designed art activities located throughout the museum's galleries, studios and gardens and the event is enhanced by the inclusion of demonstrating artists and performing groups, including artists with disabilities.

HEALling Arts

A partnership between The Cummer and the Heal! Foundation (Healing Every Autistic Life), provides access for students with autism to the VSA arts Festival and grants scholarships for children on the autism spectrum to attend Camp Cummer, the museum’s summer art camp.

ADA Accessibility

The Cummer was awarded the ADA Disability Friendly Award by the Mayor's Disabilities Council and the City of Jacksonville in 2000 and the 2008 Best Practices in Access Award from the Florida Department of State Division of Cultural Affairs, recognizing that all areas of the museum and the gardens are wheel-chair accessible.
