Garden Ornaments
The Cummer Gardens are home to sculptures, fountains, and garden ornaments. The north wall of the Italian Garden holds a niche designed by William R. Mercer, Jr. (1862 - 1939) that features a center medallion of entwined flamingos against a mosaic background. The planter presents lion's heads in each corner, center shield and Della Robbia swags. The trough and bell are planted with spring blooms.
Other notable garden pieces include Two Children with a Goose, a copy of the original Pierino de Vinci that is in the Victoria and Albert museum in London, the mosaic fountain and basin in the English Garden and the three-tier stone fountain in the Italian Garden. Throughout the garden, visitors will find intriguing benches, planters, arbors, lions and even a gargoyle to discover and enjoy.
