Job Description:

Essential Function:      

A senior level leadership position that is responsible for providing leadership and management of the direction, planning, and execution of fundraising, marketing and membership.  Lead development and marketing activities by members of the Board of Trustees, volunteers, and Director; contribute to the development of partnerships with other organizations and reporting the results of development activities.  Work with the Board of Trustees and professional staff to secure approximately 2 million in public and private dollars annually to support The Cummer’s mission and annual operating budget of 3.7 million.

  • Serve as a member of the senior Museum management team.
  • Lead and manage the Museum‘s development plan and marketing activities to include membership, annual appeal, corporate underwriting, grants, contributions from individuals, events and planned giving.
  • Manage a personal portfolio of major gift prospects for cultivation and solicitation for museum priorities.
  • Provide leadership in creating an environment that motivates staff and encourages collaboration in fulfillment of the Cummer’s mission.
  • Participate in development and implementation of Museum’s strategic plan.
  • Carry out institutional strategic priorities such as growth of upper level donors, endowment fundraising and fundraising for future capital and annual projects.
  • Responsible for setting short term and long term priorities in regards to fund development; manage work flow and ensure excellence and the highest quality in all proposals and donor interactions.
  • Develop proposals and lead solicitations for capital and endowment gifts.
  • Works with Director’s office to schedule fundraising calls and priority activities for the Director.
  • Perform personnel management functions with a five member staff, including, but not limited to, employment/termination, performance management, training, supervision and administer the personnel policies and procedures. 
  • Serve as the liaison to Advancement committee of the Board of Trustees.
  • Serve as an advocate for the Museum with professional organizations, funding agencies, businesses, governmental agencies, donors, other non-profits and the general public.
  • Develop and systematize comprehensive donor and member prospecting, cultivation and stewardship activities.
  • Prioritize and manage development activities in the community; vet and delegate outreach requests.
  • Develop and implement communication strategies as it relates to members, donors and sponsors.
  • Manage staff to maintain Altru database as it relates to prospects, existing donors and members, granting organizations and corporate contributions.  Ensure that performance reports are generated and tracked for staff and Board.
  • Coordinate grant proposals to tax-supported and private foundations, including research, foundation relations and follow-up.
  • Manage a reporting system to provide analysis of the effectiveness of the program on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
  • Responsible for short and long-term budgeting while ensuring revenue goals and expense targets are met.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Bachelors degree. 
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in fundraising/development with evidence of securing increased funding
  • Experience in a museum, university or healthcare fundraising environment
  • Demonstrated skill in productive work with board/leadership volunteers including fundraising, development planning, board development and training
  • Experience in face to face fundraising
  • Demonstrated ability to form, lead and develop high-performing teams
  • Demonstrated success in building, cultivating and stewarding relationships leading to measurable results.
  • Ability to plan strategically and build long-term relationships with donors along with excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Attention to detail and logical problem solving skills
  • Ability to provide superior customer service
  • Able to deal with customers and others at all levels
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrate communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Familiarity with fundraising systems a plus
  • Schedule will include nights and weekends due to events
  • Must have excellent work habits, including a willingness to work the hours necessary to get the job done especially when important deadlines cause greater than normal departmental pressures.
  • Valid Florida driver license
