Job Description:
Library Volunteers
Major Responsibilities: Informs patrons of library services, policies and procedures. Provides word processing support to Librarians. Processing of cataloged materials, copy cataloging such as downloading MARC records, and assisting in the filing of catalog cards. Performs clerical activities as needed. Answers phone. Enters data. Searches for items requested by library patrons. Conducts research into artists, techniques, historical periods as requested by Librarians. Identifies books requiring mending and places them in mending area with note attached. Reads spine labels and reshelves books that are not in proper order. Shifts books as necessary to assure easy access. Removes all bookmarks, paper and litter from books and shelves.
Qualifications: Knowledge of alpha/numeric order. Ability to reach to top shelves and bend to bottom shelves.
Garden Volunteers
Major Responsibilities: Garden volunteers should expect to help in the general care and maintenance of the Cummer campus in all seasons. Tasks may include weeding, pruning, plant propagation, planting in decorative containers, and general maintenance of hardscape elements like planters, fountains, and benches.
Qualifications: Familiarity with organic and chemical-free practices a plus.
Curatorial / Registrarial Volunteers
Major Responsibilities: General department administration, database administration, object research, cataloguing procedures and implementation, label writing, blogging, object handling, collection care, and exhibition installation.
Qualifications: Should possess basic computer skills, excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; excellent research and written and oral communication skills; and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Must have completed their Junior year of college, recently finished a museum-related undergraduate program, or are pursuing a graduate degree in Art History or Museum Studies.
